Starr Family Historic Home
Starr Family State Historical park preserves the 150-year history of the Starr famiy in Texas and the adaptations to the site by successive family members. Maplecroft, the centerpiece of the estate, was built in 1870. The stately house and lush azalea-laden grounds are available for guided tours, special events, candlelight dinner tours during the winter holidays, bed and breakfast accommodations and more. Guided tours are available Saturday 10 a.m until 4 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Classes in Victorian etiquette and Victorian crafts are available. Operated by Texas Parks and Wildlife, the structure is restored and beautifully maintained.
